Write for us
We welcome pitches that help readers understand local reporting, public documents or the path from a proposal to a public decision. A useful contribution has a precise question and gives readers a way to think more clearly about it.
What to pitch
Send ideas for explainers, comparisons, background pieces, close readings of public-facing language or guides to following a developing local story. Keep the subject narrow enough for one article. We are not looking for unsupported accusations, promotional copy or a retelling that adds no context.
What makes a strong proposal
State the proposed angle, why a general reader might care, the main point the article would help them understand and the kinds of material you would use. Identify what is uncertain and avoid promising conclusions that the evidence may not support. Contributions should be clear, original and readable without specialist knowledge.
How to send it
Send proposals through the Contact page and choose the editorial question option. Include a short summary and any relevant experience or links to your published work, if you wish. A pitch is a proposal, not an assignment; please wait for a response before sending a full draft.
